OHE saddened by the sudden passing of Late Professor Haihuie

The Office of Higher Education (OHE) has expressed sadness at the passing of the Late Professor Haihuie.

In an email to the University of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG) Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Albert Mellam, Director General, Prof. David Kavanamur said he was “personally shocked and saddened by the sudden passing away of a great friend and colleague” whom had known since a freshman at the university in 1986 after grade 12.

OHE officers to collect 2012 acquittals

Professor David KavanamurThe Office of Higher Education (OHE) will be sending out officers from its Finance and Administration branch between April and May to collect outstanding acquittals from institutions of higher learning.

In a circular to all the principals dated March 18, Director General, Professor David Kavanamur, said the visit is to “collect the outstanding acquittals for 2012 2nd half year board and lodging fees, book and equipment allowances and NATSCHOL allowances in order for OHE to finalize the previous year acquittals before processing grants for the 2013 continuing TESAS sponsored students.”

I am grateful to the Honourable Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O’Neill for reappointing me as the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. I and my political party leader for the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party, Honourable Don Polye, are ever so grateful for the opportunity you have given us to be part of your team.

This is my second term as a parliamentarian and as the Minister responsible for Higher Education. I want to assure that during my second term this country will see a revolution in Higher Education.

Introduction

The Office of Higher Education (OHE) inaugurated the Science and Technology Initiative (STI) in 2007 as part of the effort to operationalize an initiative to support Research and Development (R&D) in science, engineering and technology in Papua New Guinea. To support the initiative, the OHE since then has set aside funds for research and development in the Universities.
